things to do in coffs harbour
Coffs Harbour is known for its beaches, hiking, dining, and rich culture. Oh and did we mention the Big Banana? Yep it’s big (and a great place to go if you have kids). You can spend time scuba diving, surfing, whale watching, or just sitting on the beach soaking up the sun on the coast. There’s also a rich rainforest nearby where you can take the skywalk through the canopy to experience wildlife up close and personal.
what to see
If you’re into animal encounters you can visit the Butterfly House, or Shearwater Nesting on Muttonbird Island. Lots of wildlife calls Coffs Harbour home, including the marine animals that you’ll get a peek at if you go diving. Coffs also boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in New South Wales like Park Beach, Diggers Beach, Coffs Harbour (a family friendly surf beach) and Sawtell Beach. When you travel north, you’ll find even more sandy destination beaches like Woolgoolga Beach, Sapphire Beach, and Emerald. The Arrawarra and Corindi beaches are a bit higher north but also very sought out traveler destinations.
what to eat
The best and most popular places to eat when you’re staying in Coffs are at the Jetty. It’s filled with every type of restaurant you could imagine including some of the best beef, seafood, and kangaroo in the region. Coffs maintains a relaxed, country feeling that makes you feel right at home whether you’re out eating or just taking a stroll through town. Make sure you get up early (at least one day) and head down to the Jetty area for breakfast too. There are a handful of cafés in town that serve up a big brekkie if you set your alarm clock and make it in time.
Coffs is home to a number of annual festivals like the Coffs Festival of Cycling, Coffs Jetty Carnival, Dorrigo Show, and the Bellingen Winter Music Festival that provide entertainment and activity for you and your mates
what else makes coffs special?
Coffs is a family-friendly backpacker destination. It’s a place where you can experience rich wildlife, layout at Coffs Coast Regional Park, or visit the Botanical Garden to experience the lush rainforest.
The more adventurous person may enjoy skydiving, whitewater rafting, or the 40-ft. waterfall at Dorrigo National Park. If you’re into bush walking, Dorrigo is the place to go to immerse yourself in the beauty of the rain forest. It’s also a favorite destination for birdwatchers with over 120 species of birds recorded to date.
Coffs Harbour has something for everyone and isn’t as crowded or nearly as expensive as some of the other tourist destinations in Australia. It’s relaxed but lively, peaceful yet adventurous, and a place where you can enjoy a nap on the beach or jump out of a plane on the same day.
